The Muslim as World Citizen
Age group: 16-18 years
We endeavor in the present Portfolio (Course) to have it settled in the mind of the student that he/she is a world citizen: thinking and acting for the prosperity, safety, and good of the whole world; and that through undertaking vital and specific roles, designed for the good of the world; and he/she will be in this an active partner with many nations and groups.
For that purpose, we do our best to have the youth realize the elements that make a Muslim a world citizen, the means of attaining those elements, and they ways of applying those elements in his/her milieu and society; some of these elements are:
Belonging to the Muslim Ummah, in a way that is reflected in his/her dealing with their Muslim brethren, and also in their relationships with the other nations.
Getting over racism and blind sectarian bias, that may not be justified; he/she will commit himself and enjoin on others from his/her group to abide by truth and justice and fair dealing, with all other groups.
Taking Muslim brotherhood to be one’s beacon that points out the way to dealing with brother-Muslims, and perceive the manifestations of proper treatment.
Constant endeavor to get acquainted with other nations and groups, Muslim and non-Muslim.
Having mercy for all the world, and taking that to be the basis of one’s effort, work, and relationships with others, even non-Muslims; the mercy is manifested towards all the creatures that God created in the world.
Establishing justice and fair dealing, with Muslims and non-Muslims; supporting those who enjoin justice and fair dealing, of whatever creed or race.
Doing one’s best to acquire the elements required for being witness, as in the Verse of the Qur’an, “litakunu shuhada’s ala nnas”, which is displayed in being present in the world, in showing experience and expertise, and in justice
Endeavoring to establish world peace: the Muslim youth opts for peace, spreads it, supports it, and protects it; being an active participant in all the endeavors for peace, at local and world levels.
Attention to the environment and natural resources, rationalizing and guiding their consumption in a prudent way
Being active in active worker in calling people to Islam; endeavoring to spread goodness and truth, in wise and beautiful means, trying to have the tools and character of a da’wa worker.
The youth is trained in this Course to go beyond the self’s narrow limits, and those of his/her milieu and group, to be a world citizen, to be alive to the challenges of the world and the nation, and to be an active worker in determining the world’s future.
We endeavor to have the youth project in each session these important notions onto his/her real life, so that they become well settled in their consciousness: they reflect on them, and keep debating about them and applying them, trying to always draw from them practical measures that are incorporated into their attitudes and he/she digests them as familiar principles.
