Enhancement (Tazkyah) of Critical and Skills of Thinking

Since the young generation are at present bombarded by a huge torrent of information, attitudes, and events; and they are left to fend for themselves in receiving those influences, though they are bound to make important decisions concerning those effects, which are clearly reflected in their lives, attitudes, and behaviors;

And since the Almighty Lord has endowed us with reason and intellect, well-guided thinking is one of the most precious things you can provide your son or daughter with.

When an individual possesses well-guided thinking, that will have a crucial impact on the kind of decisions, choices, and behaviors that they have; and that will be reflected in protection and development, in all aspects of their lives; they will proceed in life with open eyes, which will ward them off from slipping and precipitating into disastrous situations.

We endeavor in this Axis:

• To have the rising boys and girls be acquainted with the importance of thinking, the Islamic wisdom in ruling that thinking is a sharia obligation; to realize the difference between knowledge and thinking, and to realize the importance of continuous learning.
• To make sure they are acquainted with the basics of science and scientific thinking and their importance; and to be acquainted with the scientific ways, through which science keeps refining itself, and keeps improving its findings and their accuracy.
• To help them realize some of the general thinking errors and slips, like “generalization”, “exaggeration”, “polar evaluation”, “personalization”, and the other thinking mistakes; so that he/she refers in adopting opinions to scientific findings, avoiding ‘extreme sentimentality’ or ‘arbitrary, illogical inferences,’.
• To have the students practice a number of the more important thinking tools and methods, like ‘distinguishing between a truth and an opinion’, methods of ‘scientific inferences’, verification of evidence, and scientific induction, as stated in the standard scientific principles.
• To have them practice the skill and methods of critical thinking, as well as creative thinking, both essential for a successful life, and to practice that in their real life.
