Since the young generation are exposed in our age to a great volley of data and attitudes that bombard them and compel them to interact with it, often without the support of others, and take towards it vital decisions that may greatly impact on their lives and attitudes and behaviors;

And since the Almighty God has endowed us with reason, and distinguished us with thinking – sound thought is one of the most precious things you can develop in your son or daughter.

Sound thinking, and proper processing of data and attitudes have a vital impact on the kind of decisions, choices, and behaviors that a young person adopts, and which are reflected in protecting and developing all aspects of their lives; it will enable them to proceed in life with open eyes, and this will ward off their precipitating into perilous abysses.

On the basis of the above, we endeavor in this Course:

To ensure that the youth learns the vital importance of thinking – which is why thinking has been deemed as an enjoined command in Islam; they will come to distinguish between knowledge and thinking, and also to realize the importance of continuous learning.

To bring the students to perceive the basics of science and scientific thinking: its importance, and the scientific tools, through which science keeps pruning itself, improves upon its findings, and makes them ever more accurate.

They will come to be acquainted with some salient thinking mistakes and slips – such as ‘generalization’, ‘exaggeration’, ‘polar evaluation’, ‘personalization’, and some other mistakes; the youth will come to base his/her rulings on scientific findings, avoiding ‘sentimentality’, and ‘arbitrary, unfounded, conclusions’.

The youths will be trained to employ a number of the more important thinking skills and tools, some of which are ‘distinguishing between facts and opinions’, ‘the tools of ‘scientific induction’, probing the strength of evidence, and scientific inferences, in the light of accepted scientific principles.

They will also be trained to employ the skills and tools of critical thinking, as well as creative thinking, both essential for success in life, and they are directed to use that in their actual life.
