“ihdina ssirata lmustaqim” (Enhancing Conception)

For a fruitful work in the Rejuvenation of a Generation, we need to upgrade and enhance quite a number of aspects of the child’s and adolescent’s personality, thinking, and behaviors. It seems that before all, we need to enhance the boy’s and girl’s conceptions about the Almighty Lord, what He wills us to do in this life: especially the basic conceptions which are the source and spring, and also the criterion, of all that is good, that the youngster may think about, or seek to perform, for success and prosperity in this world and on the Last Day.

In the portfolio of ‘ihdina ssirata lmustaqim’, for boys and girls of the age group 7 to 9 years, we endeavor to have them:

• Being acquainted with God, the Almighty, our Creator, and Creator of the universe; to have His love firmly implanted in the hearts of our children; to reflect on the consequences of our love of God, how that reflects on our behavior and life; and the significance of the tawhid in our utterances and deeds.

• Being acquainted with the notion of right guidance, reflecting on it, comprehending its meaning, its importance, and its great influence on us, so that it calls for gratitude.

• Expanding the meaning of worship, to include every act of goodness and charity, all beloved of God; and not to confine it to rituals.

• Being enlightened about the Last Day, and the events of reckoning and giving accounts of deeds; to have that as an incentive to choosing the deeds that ensure us a high place on that day.

• Getting acquainted with the Messenger of God, peace be upon him: his graces and traits that will be sure to engender love for him in the consciousness of the rising generation, a love that must be displayed in acts and states.

• Demonstrating the concept of doing all that is due on us, along with relying on God, asking for His help and praying to him: projecting that on the life of the youth and their daily activities.

• Getting to understand the notion of ‘trust’, God’s placing us in a position of responsibility for the world and life; and His providing us with all the good things of the world, all waiting to serve us humans; reflecting on what such considerations must impact our behavior and acts of good, doing whatever is beneficial for the person and for all humanity.

• Getting acquainted with the importance of science and knowledge; the impact of reading on finding and following the right path: a path that ensures good life and success in this world and the Hereafter.

We have been careful in this package of concepts and notion, under the Axis of ‘ihdina ssirata lmustaqim’, to have our children of this stage get to interact with them, fully and heartily, in a way that helps them perceive the truth about the major issues, and then to have them discover with their own effort the right notions and behavior, which will come about through the narratives and exciting scenes; and we have here as elsewhere been careful to have the instruction proceed through the various means of interactive training, which is followed by sufficient debate, focusing on the ways of seeing those concepts applied in the actual situations: this, we hope, will lead to their good, and the society’s good, in this life and in the Hereafter.
